Boston-based sludgy, hardcore band NIHIL has released a new music video for their single “Enslaved”. The track comes from the group’s debut full-length Foundation, a crowdfunded effort that will be released on November 5th.
“Enslaved was the last song written for Foundation, but the first single we released,” says vocalist Jake Boes. “The intensity and anger of the vocals really captures the mindset of the moment we wrote it. Lyrically, the song deals with the frustration of feeling trapped in life. Giving your blood, sweat, and tears to a cause and seeing nothing in return. It’s a concept I’m sure a lot of musicians understand very well. We live in a society that rewards ruthlessness and greed, a society in which those at the top get where they are on the backs of others.“
The video for “Enslaved” was shot by Victoria Boecklin in New England over two days. “Victoria had the idea of a man drenched in the blood of another, cleansing himself of his sin, and disassociating himself from it through religion,” says Boes.
Foundations was self-produced by the band with the mixing handled by Aslan Freeman and mastering by Brad Boatright. Pre-orders are now available via Bandcamp. NIHIL will also be on the Born to Die tour this September with Hot Gospel.
