GRIDFAILURE: Hostile Alchemy Out Now And Streaming
All March/April Orders To Plant A Tree
NYC-area experimental project GRIDFAILURE has just released Hostile Alchemy, a nine-track soundtrack to a crumbling political world order, a dying ecosystem, and a worldwide race to thermonuclear apocalypse, the album constructed during the 2016 US election cycle.
With oppressing instrumentation and vocals by GRIDFAILURE creator David Brenner (ex-Theologian, ex-Heidnik), Hostile Alchemy features guest contributions from a wide cast of allies including Leila Abdul-Rauf (Vastum, Ionophore, Cardinal Wyrm), Mark Deutrom (Bellringer, ex-Melvins), Jeff Wilson (Wolvhammer, Abigail Williams, Chrome Waves), Faith Ciavarella, Pete Tsakiris, Benjamin Levitt (Megalophobe), Christian Molenaar (Those Darn Gnomes), Alexei Korolev (The Company Corvette), and more.
GRIDFAILURE’s Hostile Alchemy is streaming at Bandcamp where each sale in March/April plants a tree for Arbor Day HERE, and Soundcloud HERE.
Decibel Magazine offers of GRIDFAILURE‘s new output, “…a collection of instruments and field recordings partner with muddy vocals for the less-abrasive but still-chilling experiment… A feeling of mounting pressure runs throughout the entirety.” Two Guys Metal Reviews declared, “There is something almost antediluvian about Hostile Alchemy. The gradual and crushing motion of these tracks makes it feel like the earth is shifting beneath your feet… GRIDFAILURE is going to punish you and force you to recalibrate your understanding of music.” Sea Of Tranquility’s 4/5 review includes, “that inability to pigeonhole GRIDFAILURE is what makes this miasma of noise all the more intriguing… It’s scary stuff, quite effective, and you’ll be left wondering why Brenner has yet to be discovered as the next great soundtrack composer to modern horror films.” Toilet Ov Hell reports how the music, “brings to the forefront all of the societal ills that lurk in our nightmare new world. It’s not just your imagination.” Antichrist Magazine posted, “Horrifying is an appropriate word, but when listening to Hostile Alchemy a sense of dread starts to set in and you begin looking behind you… a twisted and startling record that is wholly unforgiving and terrifying.”
A physical version of Hostile Alchemy is pending release in the coming weeks, as is Dendritic, a collaborative ambient album by GRIDFAILURE & MEGALOPHOBE, which will be issued on Arbor Day. April 28th.
Stand by for new info on GRIDFAILURE‘s Teeth Collection album, Drought Stick double-album, the inclusion of a track on the Death Season 6 compilation for underground label Darker Days Ahead, and several other new projects, collectively including contributions from the Hostile Alchemy collaborators, as well as Mac Gollehon — who has played on over two-hundred gold and platinum albums, including records by David Bowie, Miles Davis, Blondie, Onyx, Duran Duran, Madonna, Billy Ocean, and countless more – Brett Netson (Built To Spill, Caustic Resin), Clayton Bartholomew (Mountaineer, ex-Secrets Of The Sky, ex-Lycus), David Rodgers (Godhunter), and more.
