Corrosion of Conformity have always held a special place in my metal soul as they were my first metal concert. I saw them open for Megadeth after the release of Deliverance. If it wasn’t for their special blend of metal and southern rock, then I probably wouldn’t have as much appreciation for the other bands on tonight’s lineup.
Eyehategod are pioneers of the southern sludge genre and absolutely blew the place apart tonight as the opening band. These guys have been around for ages and still kill it every time I see them. Next up was Corrosion of Conformity, another band that has been around for a very long time. With so many lineup changes over the years, it was truly amazing to see the Deliverance lineup tonight despite Reed Mullin being out due to an injury. COC blasted through mostly classic songs while throwing in some new tunes from their latest album, No Cross No Crown. It’s always tough to follow COC but Black Label Society was up to the task! Uncle Zakk and the band know how to get a crowd of beer and beards moving. They always bring so much energy and musicianship to the stage and is truly an amazing experience just to watch them play. There is a lot of talent in metal, but Zakk is a prodigy at his instrument and when you see them live there is no denying that. Be sure to catch this tour when they make it to your town…bring beer money!
